How BB-8 Works
"There were a lot of discussions about how having a CG BB-8 would be so much easier, but we also knew it would be better for the film if it were performed" said director J.J. Abrams when the first trailer for Star Wars Episode VII came out. But how did they build it? Weirdly enough, the internet couldn't give me an answer, so a friend and I set out to figure it out ourselves. This site, published in May 2015, was the result of our investigation. It soon went viral, being featured on Popular Science, Time Magazine , the BBC and many other media outlets. Oh, and it was the side project of the summer for Net Magazine.

Ontruck: Solving the Tricky Times Problem
Ontruck is a service that allows companies with road freight shipping needs to easily book and track shipments online. One day our drivers started complaining that sometimes it was hard, or even impossible, to make it on time to all the stops in a job. We checked the data and found out that, in a significant percentage of cases, our users were indeed requesting tricky pickup and dropoff times. Here is how we solved the problem.

Doctor 24: From MVP to Scheduled Calls
Doctor24 was born as a service that allowed users to talk to doctors online. The initial idea was simple: log in and do a video call with one of our physicians. But talking to users we realized how important it was for them to be able to talk to a doctor they already trusted. At the same time, they loved the immediacy of pushing a button and connecting with a physician right away. When we started designing Scheduled Appointments, our main challenge was figuring out how to keep the best of both worlds.

The 10 rules that are helping us fix internal communications at Ontruck
Things have been moving fast at Ontruck for the past three years. We went from a team of 10 people sharing a small office to a team of 160 people distributed in four different countries. As it happens at most fast-growing organizations, we've been struggling to keep our internal communications effective. This is the approach we're following to fix the problem.

NYC Photo Guide
This travel guide with some of the best photos I have taken in NYC is coming out in late 2020. To validate the interest in this project, I prototyped a few pages of the guide I had in mind and posted this tweet. I decided to go to market based on the engagement and the feedback I received. I signed a deal with a publishing company to launch the guide in physical format through a crowdfunding campaign. The campaign achieved its €6.5K goal in less than 24 hours.

NES Mini
Like "How BB-8 Works", this site is a side project that I built using the 3D editor that we developed at Verold, the Toronto-based startup where I worked until it was acquired by Box in 2015. Launched a few weeks before Nintendo released the NES Mini, the site is basically an enhanced post that tells the amazing story behind the original NES from 1985.

Beach Boys Legacy
Beach Boys Legacy is my frontend development playground. Why a site about The Beach Boys? Well, they are one of my favorite bands and their massive discography, which spans over five decades, couldn't be properly explored anywhere on the internet. Fully designed and developed by myself, this project allows me to keep my frontend skills up to date. It also got me some backstage passes for Beach Boys and Brian Wilson shows :)
